About Our School:
Conklin International Academy is registered private school in the state of Florida. The school was established in 1994 to provide a quality education for children whose parents work and travel within the carnival industry. The mobile classroom operates behind the scenes at fairs throughout North America, which allows parents to be intimately involved in their children’s education. The academy, housed in a mobile, custom-made classroom trailer, offers educational programming for children from preschool through grade 12. The school schedule dovetails with parents’ work schedule, running through the summer and breaking in the winter when parents take their vacations.
About Our Director:
Linda Brewer is the driving force behind the educational program. She saw the need for educating the children of midway employees and went to work to make her dream a reality. Linda earned her undergraduate degree from Penn State in 1987 and her master’s degree in Mathematics from Texas A&M. Linda is qualified to teach multiple grade levels and subjects. She is committed to the children’s education and is exceptional at monitoring everyone’s progress in the multi-grade, multi-level school with her custom-designed daily student contract program. Linda has traveled the continent educating the children of carnival personnel for 21 years.
About Our Students:
The children have a unique educational opportunity that few children are afforded. They learn and experience life in the largest classroom conceivable—the world and the amusement industry. The result of this educational environment is evident in their above average scores on standardized test. They experience firsthand what they study in the classroom through field trips-visiting museums, historic sites and cities all over North America.
